Your Bone™ pillow comes packaged with instructions and wrapped in a poly bag. (Bag not shown.) |
Take it along when traveling. Just drape it over your bag or luggage. |
ASK THE INVENTOR |
Why are these pillows bone-shaped? |
2. The "neck" that connects the two bulbous ends solved the problem of how to hang or drape the headrest over the seat. (I wanted this feature so I could adjust it high or low on the seat, depending on where I wanted support.) 3. The "neck" was made hollow so the bulbous ends could adjust for size and firmness when filled with a loose filler. 4. The bulbous ends are different sizes because, again, adjustability. (Turns out, Headbone's versatility is due to my unwillingness to commit to a solution!) |
How do I use Headbone®? |
2. Position it where you want it (behind the head, neck, back, etc.). 3. Adjust the level of support (fullness or flatness) by shaking the buckwheat-hull filler through the hollow neck. 4. Get comfortable! Other tips: |
How is Headbone® different from other portable pillows? |
It's completely adjustable. The bulbous shape contours to your body to fill any void of space between you and your seat. Alertness OR relaxation. Set it and forget it; it stays in place. |
How can it affect or improve my posture? |
Use Headbone on a low- to mid-height chair for lumbar support. (Headbone is 26" long and will reach the lumbar region on low- to mid-height chairs as shown.) Use Backbone on high-back chairs for lumbar support. Tip: Lumbar support generally requires less filler than is provided in Headbone. You can remove filler through the zipper if desired. |

Holding it up can give you a crick in your neck. Headbone is supportive -- not squooshy -- so it will hold your head at the angle you set. Read, watch the view, or relax without neck strain. |
Question from Howard in Soquel, CA, 3/12/10: Hello Victoria: Answer to Howard: Hello Howard, Thank you for your feedback. The fabric itself is machine washable and won't shrink or bleed, BUT that's not a desirable option because you'd have to empty all the buckwheat in order to wash it. Then you'd have to refill it with the buckwheat you removed. It's probably not an exercise you'd want to perform. (You can open Headbone through the zipper on the side seam of the neck. But be careful if you do, since the filler is loose.) Therefore, I suggest to surface-clean it with a damp cloth. For example, put light soap on a cloth and lightly rinse and squeeze it out so it's not sopping wet or sudsy. Then wipe the surface clean. That should eliminate odor, but a disinfectant spray like Lysol would also help. Note also you can put a sachet inside Headbone. Use a regular sachet that you buy from the store OR make your own, like this: 1) get a small piece of light fabric like muslin or cheesecloth; 2) remove some buckwheat -- about a tablespoon or so -- and place on the fabric; 3) spray or dab the buckwheat with your favorite cologne; and 4) secure the fabric closed and put it inside Headbone. (Sewing the sachet closed would be better than tying, since the latter would be bulky.) Then your Headbone will smell nice and also transfer the scent to you when you use it! (I'll offer these as an accessory soon -- do you want a sample? I'll send you a prototype if you want to try it.) I doubt discoloration will occur, especially since you got black. I'm considering options for a cover that could be easily washed, but it's tricky since a double-skin-type cover would affect adjustability and firmness. I hope these are satisfactory solutions to your questions. Thanks again and regards, Victoria |

You can modify it when you read, watch TV, or have a conversation. Note: If you want to sit more "straight up" in a chair that's angled back like the one shown at right, Headbone will be unobtrusive. This means you can leave it on the chair all the time and use it when you want it and ignore it when you don't. |

Fold it, smoosh it, or wedge it countless ways to fill any need. Example: Do you get a sore shoulder while driving? If so, wedge Headbone under your elbow. It will jack up your shoulder, prevent slouching, and greatly relieve the strain. Example: Does your backside get fatigued when you sit for too long? Yes! Sit on Headbone for relief. Maybe it has something to do with pressure points, but it really helps. (Yes, Headbone is strong and supportive enough for at least an average adult to sit on. We haven't tested it for pound strength.) Also handy for supporting objects, too! |
